What Is Medical Detox?
Medical detoxification typically lasts 3 to 7 days and is the first critical step in addiction recovery. At MHD Helpline's Detroit facility, our medical team provides 24/7 monitoring to ensure your safety and comfort as your body clears harmful substances.
Detox is necessary because withdrawal from alcohol, opioids, benzodiazepines, and other substances can cause serious health complications. Our board-certified physicians use medication-assisted treatment (MAT) protocols to manage withdrawal symptoms and reduce discomfort.

Levels of Outpatient Care
Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)
Duration: 2-4 weeks | 5-6 days per week, 6+ hours per day. Intensive clinical programming similar to residential, but patients return home each evening. Ideal as a step-down from residential treatment.
Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)
Duration: 8-12 weeks | 3-5 days per week, 3-4 hours per day. Group therapy, individual counseling, and skills training. Flexible morning or evening sessions available at our Detroit center.
Standard Outpatient
1-2 sessions per week for ongoing maintenance and relapse prevention. Individual therapy and check-ins to support long-term recovery goals.
Step-Down Care
Many patients transition through multiple levels of outpatient care as they progress in recovery. MHD Helpline's clinical team adjusts your treatment plan as you grow stronger, ensuring continuity of care from residential through aftercare.
Dual Diagnosis Treatment at MHD Helpline
What Is Dual Diagnosis?
Dual diagnosis refers to the co-occurrence of a substance use disorder and a mental health condition. At MHD Helpline, our clinical team understands that addiction rarely exists in isolation. Conditions such as depression, anxiety, PTSD, and bipolar disorder frequently co-occur with substance use, and treating one without the other often leads to relapse.
Mental Health Conditions We Treat
- Major Depression
- Generalized Anxiety Disorder
- Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
- Bipolar Disorder
- Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
- Personality Disorders
Our Integrated Approach
MHD Helpline's dual diagnosis program treats both conditions simultaneously under one roof at our Detroit facility. Our approach includes:
- Psychiatric evaluation and ongoing medication management
- Trauma-focused therapies including EMDR and trauma-informed CBT
- Individual therapy addressing both addiction and mental health
- Group sessions with peers facing similar challenges
- Holistic therapies such as yoga, meditation, and art therapy
